SXSW

To Indie Network of Sound, SXSW is integral to our being and essence. It is much of the reason we moved to Austin many years ago, it is our favorite time of the year, and it is a big reason why we remain based in Austin and dedicated to what we call Indie Ground Sound. SXSW is without compare. Simply put, there is nothing like the energy and experience and uniqueness shared each year by like minded individuals from all over the world - with the common goals of enjoying music, friends, and fun.

Below you will find some of our favorite moments of SXSW.

SXSW2016 IndieGroundSound Experience in Review

INDIE NETWORK OF SOUND·WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6, 2016

In no particular order here are my favourite experiences from the 30th anniversary SXSW (my 21st consecutive.) For those that know it they understand it is an event without compare. It is much of the reason why I first moved to Austin (I must add the compulsory “Don’t move here.”). It is my favourite time of the year. Without further ado.

Creepoid from Philly at the Hotel Vegas #Levitation Festival Curated Party . Tons of fun.

"You guys are crazy." #Creepoid

PINS from Manchester #PINS #SheShreds party at Hotel Vegas

Black Angels from Austin, Texas at the #Lagunitas Couch Trippin’ Party #HistoricRedScootInn. Me and a few select special folks got in at the last minute for tasty brews and the best rock n' roll there is. Thanks to my friend Christian Bland. "As long as they don't break anything."

(All of) Friday March the 18th

Met Dave Pirner, saw Soul Asylum play an acoustic set, saw Mercury Rev play a short introspective set. Had a beer with the legendary Grasshopper, Watched Sweet Spirit perform on a roof overlooking Congress Ave. Another of many very special moments of which there were... many. Sabrina C. Ellis as I always tell you, you are a STAR.

War Party from Ft Worth, TX. Met and had a drink with the Legendary Steve Lamacq from BBC. Wonderful guy. Excellent time. He even approved my festival notes and band plan agenda list. He said it was eclectic...

Fluffer Records Pit Party (#FlufferPitParties). Amazing concept where the bands play in the middle of the rock space surrounded by amps for a 360 degree rock extravaganza experience.

Muuy Biien at #Barracuda at the Fluffer Records Pit Party.

*** Gymshorts. Holy shit. Barracuda. Total devastation. (Very likely the best set out of so many great sets.) Followed by Death Valley Girls, and Guerilla Toss.

Yak - after Ollie tore the place up I was pretty much done. “ ...and then Ollie from Wolverhampton did a flying karate kick from the stage whilst playing guitar only to smash into a table full of beers and drinks. Glass smashed. Mayhem ensued. He never stopped playing” #YAK #BritishMusicEmbassy

Burgermania V at Hotel Vegas... The finest annual SXSW closing party. #BurgerRecords #Burgermania #HotelVegas #HotelHotBurrito

Pookie and the Poodlez

Hundred Visions. Met Ben from Hundred Visions.

Grape St (Guys from the former band Harlem). Later they were selling burgers, good ones at that.

#VISION. These guys were solid young up and comers. You will definitely be hearing more about them from us. I know I sure want to hear more.

Met Chris from Gymshorts

Met Ollie and Mike from Fluffer Records

Then came the grand finale and what felt like a continuation of the Battle of the Bands from the previous night’s Pit Party

Feels

Death Valley Girls

Thee MVPs from London #TheeMVPs

No Parents, and

Mean Jeans

The night and SXSW ended appropriately with running into Christian once again and thanking him.

Final tally - roughly 58 bands over 5 days and nights. Final take - FUNNN and nothing but
